    Circular saw vs band saw cost per cut comparison

    When a buyer compares a CNC carbide circular saw with a band saw, the first number they see is the machine price. That number is almost never the one that decides the project. What decides it is cost per cut — the fully loaded cost of one finished, burr-free bar — calculated across blade wear, cycle time, kerf scrap, labour and capital.     A carbide circular saw can cost two to three times a comparably sized band saw, yet on a high-volume line it is often the cheaper machine per part. The reason is throughput and scrap. Its edge is speed and finish: a 50 mm bar is severed in seconds, the cut face is flat, and downstream operations (chamfering, threading, welding) need little or no facing. For parts that ship by the tens of thousands — axle blanks, fastener stock, hydraulic rod — the labour and facing savings dwarf the blade cost.     Band Saw Economics

    The Kerf Factor — the Hidden Material Cost

    Kerf is the steel you pay for and then throw away. A band saw removes less material per cut (≈1.4 mm) than a carbide circular saw (≈2.5 mm), so on expensive alloy or stainless the band saw’s thinner kerf can offset its slower cycle. On cheap carbon steel the difference is noise.
